Most business owners know the moment David Lewis talks about. You start a company so you can work for yourself. A few years in, you realize you work for everyone else. Your clients, your employees, your partners, even your vendors.

Lewis knows it because he lived it.

He comes from a long line of entrepreneurs. In his late 20s he started a publishing and printing company. It grew steadily for years and then it hit a ceiling. So he pushed harder. Late nights, too much coffee and too many missed moments with his kids. He tried different systems and programs. None of them stuck. Eventually he waved the white flag and sold the company.

“I sold my first company because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. If EOS had existed back then, I might still own that business.”

Ten years later he started again, this time as a coach and facilitator. That road led him to EOS.

EOS

Since 2019, Lewis has worked with more than 55 entrepreneurs and their leadership teams as a Certified EOS Implementer.

EOS stands for the Entrepreneurial Operating System. It’s a set of simple, practical tools that help owners get more of what they want from their business. More than 30,000 companies have used it to fix root problems, lead better and get real traction. Lewis adds thousands of hours as a trained coach and facilitator to the mix. He likes EOS because it’s simple and it works. It helps owners build a company that runs for them instead of running them.

What’s Different About EOS

Lewis focuses on three areas. Each one lines up with a pain point he sees in almost every growing company.

Vision comes first. Everyone in the company needs to agree on where it’s going and how it’s going to get there. Most founders carry that picture around in their heads and assume they’ve shared it. Usually they haven’t.

Next is traction. That means focus, discipline and accountability, so the vision actually gets worked on every single week. A plan that never shows up in weekly behaviour is just a wish.

The third is health. A leadership team that trusts each other, argues well and pulls together. Most business advice skips this part. In Lewis’s experience it’s the part that decides whether the other two last.

“The owner is always the last one to see the ceiling. They’re too busy holding it up.”

He’s Been In Your Shoes

Lewis doesn’t just coach business owners. He’s been one.

Before he ever coached anyone, he built a business and sold it after it stopped working. He knows what that ceiling feels like and what it costs you at home.

That matters more than people think. An advisor who has only ever advised shows up with frameworks. Someone who has run a company and watched it stall shows up with recognition. Owners can usually tell which one they’re talking to pretty quickly.

Results Clients Experience

Most of Lewis’s clients see three things happen when they implement EOS, and each one feeds the next.

Sales go up. The leadership team finally agrees on where the business is headed, and people start pulling in the same direction.

Profit follows. Clear priorities, real accountability and a steady weekly meeting rhythm cut out the waste, the rework and the endless “wait, who owns this?” moments that quietly eat margin.

And the owner gets the business back. Not white-knuckle control. The right people making the right calls, and a company that keeps running when the founder takes a week off. More growth with less chaos. More profit without more hours.

“The goal is a business you could walk away from for a month and come back to something even better.”

Try It Before You Buy It

Lewis offers a free 90-minute workshop for owners who want to see how EOS could clear out the frustrations they deal with every day. That’s a real chunk of his time before anyone commits to anything. He’s fine with that. He thinks EOS is best judged by trying it, and he’d rather people see it work than take his word for it.

Giving Back

Lewis does pro bono work with several non-profits. He’s been working with the Daily Bread Food Bank since 2019.

Why This Matters

Every growing company hits a point where the founder’s personal horsepower isn’t enough anymore. What worked with 10 people breaks at 30. Decisions that used to fit in one person’s head now need a system. And the owner is usually the last to notice, because they’re buried in the day-to-day.

That’s where a lot of good businesses get stuck. A solid operating system helps by trading constant improvising for a steady rhythm. It shouldn’t add complexity. It should take it away.

For Canadian business owners who have hit a ceiling and can’t see past it, Lewis offers something better than theory. He’s been exactly where they are, and he found a way through.
