Cheryl Nomdarkhon began her career in 1999, and after a few career switches, she lost her full-time position with a multinational training and development organization in 2020. Most people would have panicked in this circumstance, but Cheryl used it as an opportunity to reevaluate her goals and reinvent both her choices and herself. She started again with her passion and desire for a truly fulfilling career that would allow her to have a true work-life balance and a job where she could significantly impact people.
Cheryl always had a passion for styling and returned to school, for this reason, majored in fashion and styling, and earned her certification as a stylist and then decided to start her own styling business in September 2020 with the experience of styling clothes for herself, friends, and family. Her company, Uncover Your Style, gives clients the tools they need to discover their personal style, dress with ease and confidence, and feel extraordinary.
The Influence of the Style Maverick
Due to the pandemic, Cheryl Nomdarkhon had ample time and space to gather herself. While decluttering during the pandemic, she came across her father’s black and white picture in a photo album. This caught her attention, as Cheryl was surprised by how well-groomed he appeared in his starched, sharp pants and black shoes as he sat on a bench.
Bringing back memories of her father, whose impeccable sense of style she remembered, even if he wore a uniform to work and always wore well-groomed on his days off. She thought back to how spotless and neat his suits and dress shirts were, how perfectly organized his closet was, and how he once took them shopping when they first moved to Canada. The end of those memories took her to the doorstep of her goal of establishing a career in fashion and personal styling. She believes her father has greatly influenced her decision to start this journey of discovering and pursuing her passion.
Uncovering Your Style
Cheryl has experience working in a corporate setting and has worked for 10 years for a global training and development company. But the realization that her real passion lies in fashion and making a difference with people inspired her to become a Certified Personal Stylist.
As a certified personal stylist, Cheryl Nomdarkhon offers clients consultations in the areas of color analysis, body shape analysis, personal style recommendations, style consultations, wardrobe edits, and personal shopping to help clients develop their sense of style or elevate it using what they already own. Cheryl wants her clients to like and feel good about how they dress in the morning as they walk out the door, that their fashion reflects who they are, and that they feel comfortable in their skin. She wants her clients to wear an outfit that has been lying in their closet for years by revamping it through styling.
In Uncover Your Style, Cheryl offers style advice to customers with a creative sense of style and offers a platform for professional women and men to develop their own style. She has been successful in building lasting client and business partnerships owing to her highly developed communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. Cheryl is also involved in delivering webinars and workshops.
Through Uncover Your Style, Cheryl is on a quest to assist both men and women discover their style sensibility. She wants her customers to rediscover who they are and find what clothes and accessories complement them the most. She provides services including style introduction, signature packages, in-person and virtual style consultations, colour analysis, closet and wardrobe edits, personal shopping, wardrobe styling, and subscription styling services.
Cheryl posts style blogs on her website about fashion, beauty, shopping, and arts and culture. She also records style tutorial videos and promotes them on her website and social media channels. She currently works for Banana Republic as a stylist/sales associate.
Cheryl is the only Canadian member of the online organization for Black stylists called Black Women Who Style, a digital platform and online community inspired by the fashion industry’s lack of recognition and guidance where stylists help each other to grow and develop.
Cheryl is interested in learning about what makes her clients feel special and the memories they want to recreate. She urges them to always keep in mind that it’s never too late to change their look and reinvent themselves. To do this, her long-term objective is to develop a client-centred one-stop shop, similar to a boutique image consulting service, in collaboration with other stylists, designers, make-up artists, and photographers.
