Winning the CanadianSME National Business Award was a very meaningful moment for me. It felt like years of hard work and dedication to customer service had truly been recognized. Customer service is something I take very seriously because it’s at the heart of how we serve every client. The award also made me reflect on the early years of my career, where I received incredible training that shaped my approach to serving people. Looking back, I can see how every experience has led me to this purpose. It was a reminder to appreciate the journey and continue raising our standard of care.
A special message or advice to small business owners
My advice to every small business owner is to never underestimate the power of great customer service. It’s easy to deliver a great experience when everything goes according to plan. The real test is how you respond when things don’t. Over the years, I’ve developed a simple principle that guides our team: AAO— Apologize, Acknowledge, and Offer a Solution. It’s an approach I coined to help us stay focused on what matters most when resolving customer concerns. Mistakes are inevitable in business, but responding with empathy, accountability, and a solution is what builds trust, loyalty, and a lasting reputation.
