DMZ’s 2026 Women Innovation Summit provided a high-impact venue for women entrepreneurs throughout Canada by combining funding possibilities, engaging conversations, and a strong sense of community. The event brought together innovators, investors, and industry experts with a clear goal of fostering women-led innovation.

Powering Innovation Through Pitches, Insights and Industry Voices
One of the Summit’s highlights was the pitch showcase, which featured Canada’s top 10 women tech founders competing for up to $200,000 in investment. The event not only highlighted breakthrough ideas in new areas, but it also emphasized the growing strength of women-led companies in the innovation economy.
The energy continued with a fireside chat with DMZ’s 2026 Woman of the Year, Isabelle Hudon, President and CEO of BDC. She was selected for her contribution to extending access and opportunity for entrepreneurs across Canada. She shared practical lessons about leadership, resilience, and the challenges of creating at scale.
Hudon provided a first-hand account of the current state of Canada’s innovation economy, citing financial flows, shifting global priorities, and the emergence of industries such as AI and defence as important potential for entrepreneurs. She later on presented a surprise $10,000 grant to Haibu Health.
The Summit also featured a panel discussion with women executives exploring how shifting global priorities — including increased investment in cybersecurity, space technologies and systems tied to defence and dual-use technologies — are opening new entry points for startups.

Extending Impact Through Community and Connection
Beyond the stage, the Summit provided opportunities for connection. Attendees engaged in conversations beyond the formal sessions, forming relationships that could lead to partnerships, mentorship, and long-term success.
Beyond the event, DMZ’s Women Innovation Programs continue to empower women entrepreneurs across Canada. To date, these efforts have benefited over 4,200 women founders, with companies obtaining over $522 million in funding.

Building What Comes Next for Women in Business
Looking ahead, DMZ maintains its commitment through its Women Innovation Programs that offer hands-on, tailored support for women entrepreneurs, such as the Launchpad for Women Entrepreneurs. Designed for aspiring and early-stage owners, the program offers practical tools, coaching, and a supportive network to help women take the next step in establishing their businesses with confidence.
The Women Innovation Summit was a success thanks to the support of Elevate, GrowWise, Profitual, HAB Strategy, EQ Bank, TDIP, Scotiabank, and DMZ Ventures, as well as a strong network of community collaborators. As momentum from this year’s Summit grows, DMZ is solidifying its role as a catalyst for women-led innovation in Canada, ensuring that the next generation of entrepreneurs has access to finance, knowledge, and opportunities.
