Suhaneil Uzcategui is the Founder and CEO of Su Consulting, a Canadian-based accounting firm dedicated to empowering small businesses, entrepreneurs, and newcomers through expert tax, bookkeeping, and business advisory services. Her mission is to provide high-quality, accessible services that foster entrepreneurship and economic growth, particularly within newcomer and Latin communities. Under her leadership, Su Consulting aims to become a trusted partner for businesses looking to achieve financial success in Canada.

Your firm specializes in helping entrepreneurs and newcomers navigate the Canadian financial landscape. What are the most common financial challenges these groups face, and how does Su Consulting make accounting and tax matters more accessible to them?

Many newcomers and entrepreneurs struggle with understanding the Canadian tax system, choosing the right business structure, and keeping their financial records organized. Language barriers and limited knowledge about CRA requirements often lead to confusion or costly mistakes.

At Su Consulting, we simplify everything. We offer services in both English and Spanish, provide personalized explanations, and guide our clients step-by-step. We don’t just file taxes—we teach them how the system works so they can make better decisions.

We also offer templates, planning tools, and one-on-one consultations designed especially for small business owners. Our mission is to empower clients with clarity, not just compliance. Whether someone is just starting out or looking to grow, we make sure they feel confident and supported.

Can you tell us about your personal journey-what inspired you to start Su Consulting, and what were some of the biggest obstacles you encountered as an entrepreneur and newcomer yourself?

I’m originally from Venezuela. In 2014, I moved to Chile, where I worked as an accountant for eight years. In 2022, I came to Canada with my husband. I didn’t speak English and had to start from zero. I studied English and then completed a postgraduate program in Global Business Management.

People told me that working in accounting would be hard without perfect English, but I believed that if I could learn the language, I could also rebuild my career. After helping a few newcomers understand taxes and bookkeeping, I realized there was a real need—and that’s how Su Consulting was born.

The biggest challenges were language, fear of failure, and building trust from scratch. But each obstacle gave me the strength to create a business that supports others like me—newcomers with dreams.

Su Consulting offers services in both English and Spanish, with a special focus on supporting the Latin community. Why is language accessibility so important in financial services, and how has this shaped your relationship with clients?

Language is more than communication—it’s connection. Many newcomers feel overwhelmed when they receive letters from the CRA or have to make financial decisions in a second language. When someone explains things in your own language, you feel safe, respected, and empowered.

That’s why Su Consulting offers bilingual services. Speaking Spanish allows us to connect with Latin clients on a deeper level. They trust us not just as professionals, but as people who understand their journey.

This trust has created strong, long-term relationships. Our clients recommend us to family and friends because they know we care, we listen, and we explain things clearly. It’s not just about translating words—it’s about making financial services human and inclusive. To help even more people feel confident with their finances, Su Consulting offers a free 15-minute consultation. You can book it directly through our website: www.suconsultingca.com.

With the launch of your expanded corporate tax services for 2025, what strategies do you recommend for small businesses to maximize deductions and maintain compliance during tax season?

First, keep your books organized all year. Many small businesses wait until tax season, but real savings come from planning ahead. Use accounting software like QuickBooks and separate personal and business expenses.

Second, track all deductible costs—home office, vehicle use, internet, startup costs, and professional services. Every receipt counts.

Third, pay yourself properly. If you’re incorporated, consider salary vs dividends based on your goals.

And finally, don’t do it alone. Work with a professional who understands your industry and helps you stay compliant with CRA rules.

At Su Consulting, we support clients with quarterly reviews, templates, tax planning, and CRA guidance. Our goal is to make tax time stress-free and help small businesses grow with confidence.

Finally, what advice would you offer to newcomers or Latin entrepreneurs who are considering starting their own business in Canada?

Believe in yourself—even if you don’t know everything right now. Start small, ask for help, and be consistent. Learn how the Canadian system works and connect with other entrepreneurs.

As a newcomer, you already have resilience and courage. Use that to your advantage. The road is not always easy, but it’s possible.

Also, don’t be afraid of taxes or accounting. They are not barriers—they’re tools that help you grow and protect your business. At Su Consulting, we say: “You are not alone.” Whether you’re starting a side hustle or launching a corporation, we’re here to guide you with patience, in your language, and with all our heart. Canada has space for your dream—go for it.
