Kayla Gabelhouse: Revolutionizing the Jewelry Industry with Lavender & Grace

Small Business Canada

From a small side hustle to a booming business, Kayla Gabelhouse, the owner of Lavender & Grace Jewelry, has come a long way in her entrepreneurial journey. With a passion for affordable, casual, and long-lasting accessories, Kayla created a brand that fulfills her personal needs and addresses the transparency and education gaps in the jewelry industry.

Kayla Gabelhouse has been named the Entrepreneur of the Week by CanadianSME magazine. This recognition is well-deserved as Lavender & Grace Jewelry has become a favourite of fashion-conscious consumers looking for affordable, high-quality jewelry. Kayla’s commitment to educating her customers about jewelry care and her attention to detail in creating simple, nickel-and-lead-free accessories have earned her a loyal following. With sales skyrocketing exponentially since inception, it’s clear that Kayla’s entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her craft are paying off.

A Frustrating Journey Leads to a Booming Business

Kayla’s passion for business stems from her early childhood experiences when she ran bake sales and lemonade stalls. Yet a jewelry tycoon was the last thing she ever saw herself becoming. In 2015, she founded Lavender & Grace Jewelry because of her difficulty locating reasonably priced, long-lasting accessories.

Earlier, Kayla had to juggle between her full-time retail job and her business. But that would change soon, as she used her business education to implement marketing campaigns and business tactics, leading to her company’s success. After her graduation from Okanagan College in 2020, she became fully committed to her business, scaling it through trial and error.

A Transparent and Educative Approach

Kayla’s primary focus is to educate people about jewelry care. She observed a lack of transparency in the jewelry industry, leading her to prioritize the material and education of jewelry care. Her company’s website and social media accounts provide extensive information on handling metals and caring for jewelry.

In fact, the CEO of Lavender & Grace Jewelry feels it is crucial to interact with clients on a personal level. Thus, the company often holds in-person events where customers can touch and view the items. With the goal of providing better service to her Okanagan clientele, Kayla aims to host a monthly pop-up event.

An Assortment of Jewelry Free from Nickle & Lead

Lavender & Grace Jewelry specializes in simple, nickel- and lead-free accessories. According to Kayla, nickel and lead are the two metals that react readily with our skin, oil, fragrances, and lotions. As a result of providing customers with high-quality accessories at reasonable prices, the firm has seen rapid expansion.

Success in the Pandemic

During the pandemic, when businesses worldwide shut down and came crashing, Lavender & Grace was one of the few lucky brands that survived and flourished. In fact, their sales soared to a whopping 434% in the year 2020. Apart from the online web purchase, Lavender & Grace’s jewelry is sold at 20 different outlets in Canada, including The Latest Scoop and Spruce Collective.

Kayla’s Professional Tipping point

The decision to hire a team was a watershed moment in Kayla’s career because, until February 2021, she ran her business on her own with the help of friends and loved ones. The addition of two specialist employees, however, enabled her to divide the work and manage her job effectively. Kayla believes delegating is key to business growth, as no one can do it all.

She also believes solopreneurship won’t work for her in the long run, as she feels lonely and overwhelmed with all the decisions that she has to make alone. But she does affirm that trusting your instincts is essential when tackling issues with your business, whether they may be big or small.

As Lavender & Grace Jewelry has risen exponentially over the past two years, Kayla aims to grow her team and business. The firm is actively working toward its next prime objective, the launch of an L&G studio/store in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Kayla Gabelhouse’s entrepreneurial journey is a testament to the power of persistence, hard work, and passion. From humble beginnings, she has built a successful business that has garnered the attention and respect of many in the industry. Her commitment to transparency, quality, and education has helped her stand out in a crowded market and has endeared her brand to customers across Canada. As Lavender & Grace Jewelry continues to grow and expand, we do no doubt that Gabelhouse will continue to lead the charge with her trademark drive and determination. She is an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere and a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication and a bit of entrepreneurial spirit.
