Leyad Completes Major Acquisition Across Ten Canadian Provinces

Nearly $300 million portfolio acquisition represents the largest Canadian retail real estate transaction completed to date in 2026

Leyad, a Canadian real estate investment and management firm, today announced the completion of a major acquisition of a portfolio of single-tenant retail properties leased to Loblaw Companies Limited (“Loblaw”) across ten Canadian provinces, representing approximately $300 million in transaction value.

The current closing represents the substantial majority of the transaction, following an initial closing earlier this year. The acquisition represents the largest Canadian retail real estate transaction completed to date in 2026.

The portfolio is comprised of single-tenant properties leased to Loblaw on triple-net leases, with a weighted average lease term (WALT) of approximately 14 years, providing Leyad with long-term contractual income from Canada’s largest food retailer.

“This is a defining transaction for Leyad and an important milestone in the continued growth of our national platform,” said Greg Castiel, SVP, Commercial at Leyad. “The portfolio is highly complementary to our strategy of owning high-quality, necessity-based retail real estate supported by strong tenants and long-term leases. This transaction meaningfully increases our exposure to the grocery sector.”

Following the transaction, Loblaw is Leyad’s largest tenant by revenue, significantly expanding the relationship between the two companies.

“We are particularly excited to strengthen our relationship with Loblaw,” added Castiel. “Having Canada’s largest grocer as our largest tenant is a strong fit with the resilient, essential real estate we want to own and provides a strong foundation for our continued growth across Canada.”

The acquisition builds on Leyad’s strategy of assembling a diversified national portfolio of income-producing real estate focused on durable cash flows, strong tenant credit and properties serving the everyday needs of Canadian communities.
