NICK A. IOZZO
The senior leader of our team and President of DPM, Nick has over 30 years of experience working in the utility sector. He spent the first eight years working directly for local utilities, including five years running the design department for an LDC. These initial years not only provided a sound foundation of knowledge on fundamental utility principals but also formed the basis of the strong personal relationships Nick still maintains today with senior managers in the LDC sector. For the past three decades, Nick has focused his efforts on providing services to the utility and the private sector. He has unrivaled experience in managing large-scale development and utility renewal projects.
DPM Energy was created to leverage the 100 plus years of utility experience of Nick A. Iozzo, P. Eng., and the senior team. Building on our experience, we have grown to provide services to several private and public-sector clients such as public utilities, municipal and regional governments, and commercial industrial and residential developers. DPM prides itself on having many long-term loyal clients. Our staff has had relationships with some clients that have spanned three decades. We feel that this speaks volumes to our ability to not only manage projects successfully but also to our ability to regularly exceed the expectations of our clients.
Overall, if there is one thing our experience has taught us, is that clients are unique. They are unique in how they approach a project, unique in how they want us to communicate, unique in how they value our services, and unique in how they deal with problems. We spend time trying to understand our clients so that our solutions meet their needs and expectations. We feel that the simple things set us apart, such as returning phone calls and emails promptly, to ensuring deadlines and project budgets are taken seriously, to producing only top-quality products.
1. What does winning the CanadianSME National Business Award mean to you and your organization?
Winning the CanadianSME National Business Awards for Best Place to Work and Small Business of the Year (Up to 100 Employees) is a true honour. It humbled us to be recognized in two categories in a national awards program. Our team is genuinely proud to belong to the DPM family, and the culture and values that we live day in and day out. Being recognized by a national organization is extremely meaningful and validates why we are committed to a strong culture. It was exciting to be recognized for what we as a collective have achieved, as that cannot be accomplished without the support and effort of all our team
2. What piece of advice would you give to entrepreneurs?
Sometimes it’s the fear of stepping over the edge, the fear of the unknown, that holds you back from starting a business. First, make sure you have a business with products or services that other people want to buy. Then, believe in yourself and make it happen, because the best part about building a business is watching the team work together to solve problems and come up with innovative solutions for clients. I wanted to create a culture I wasn’t seeing with some of my other employers in the past. A lot of our focus on culture and core values is having everyone be part of the equation. We spend a lot of time on engaging staff.
