Strong Canadian Property and Casualty Market Creates More Favourable Conditions for Business Decision Makers Entering 2027, Aon Finds

Aon plc (NYSE: AON), a leading global professional services firm, today has released its Canadian Insurance Market Update for Fall 2026, which finds that the Canadian Property and Casualty (P&C) market is entering 2027 in a strong position, with healthy insurer and reinsurer results, robust global capital and ample capacity supporting a broadly favourable P&C market for well‑managed risks.

“For Canadian buyers, this backdrop has translated into a domestic market that is generally very favourable,” said Russell Quilley, Head of Commercial Risk and Chief Broking Officer for Canada, Aon. “Capacity is ample, competition among insurers and reinsurers is strong, and pricing for well‑performing risks is flat to down across many lines. Buyers have more options to enhance coverage and restructure programs, but they are doing so against a risk landscape that is more interconnected, volatile and difficult to predict than ever.”

Additional key findings:
  • The Canadian P&C market remains well-capitalized, with ample capacity and competition supporting favourable outcomes. However, catastrophe activity, social inflation, cyber threats, supply chain pressures and geopolitical tensions continue to drive volatility.
  • Catastrophe risk in Canada is becoming more volatile, with wildfire, flood and severe convective storms emerging more frequently. Underwriters are placing greater emphasis on secondary perils, quality data, valuations and mitigation.
  • Casualty and specialty markets remain supported by strong balance sheets and competition, while social inflation and litigation trends, particularly involving U.S. exposures, remain key concerns. Strong risk controls, contract language and loss history are increasingly important.
  • Commercial property conditions continue to improve, with increased capacity supporting broader coverage, higher limits and greater flexibility for well-managed risks. Catastrophe exposure remains a key underwriting focus, increasing the importance of quality data, current valuations and demonstrated mitigation.
