Success stories come in many shapes and forms, but few can inspire and impress as much as the journey of Alan A B, a true gentleman with great hospitality and a knack for entrepreneurship. As a blogger focusing on highlighting success stories from our beloved Cape Breton Island, it’s a true pleasure to share Alan’s remarkable journey and the impact he has made in our community and beyond.
Alan’s story is not just about achieving success; it’s about defying the odds and carving a niche for himself in an industry that’s not only challenging but also rapidly evolving. Coming to Canada at the age of 21 as a student, Alan embarked on a journey that led him to remarkable achievements and contributions to the Canadian business landscape.
His academic accomplishments are outstanding, holding diplomas in both Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, and graduating at the top from the University of Kerala and Cape Breton University. However, what truly sets Alan apart is his decision to stay back in Cape Breton Island after completing his studies, choosing to invest his skills and expertise in the local community.
Last year marked a remarkable milestone in Alan’s career when he was appointed by Health Canada as the Quality Assurance Regulatory Affairs Manager at Bluenose Labs Ltd, a prominent cannabis production facility located in the coastal town of Sydney Mines, owned by Tiffany Walsh and Doug Walsh. This prestigious position effectively made him the head of the company’s crucial Quality Assurance department – a significant accomplishment considering the highly regulated and scrutinized nature of the Canadian cannabis industry. Unlike many other commercial sectors, the Canadian government takes a hands-on approach when it comes to overseeing licensed cannabis producers and processors. Key personnel, such as the Quality Assurance Manager, are directly appointed by Health Canada to ensure the highest standards of product safety, consistency, and compliance are maintained. This role is vital, as he is responsible for implementing rigorous testing protocols, documenting every step of the cultivation and manufacturing process, and certifying that Bluenose Labs’ operations adhere to the stringent regulations set forth by the federal regulator.
It’s commendable that Alan has been approved by a Canadian Government body at such a young age, as securing this position is an extraordinary accomplishment that not everyone can achieve. At just 26 years old, he is already the founding member and Alternate Head of Security for a thriving million-dollar cannabis business.
The depth of Alan’s entrepreneurial spirit and drive is evident in his additional ventures. He owns and operates an online company called ‘The Big Fiddle’ which provides vital digital support to other Licensed Cannabis Producers across the country. With a genuine desire to create more job opportunities for his local community, Alan explains, “I think I must do so, for what this land has given me.” This online venture also got various products under his brand BNY. “My team is actively working on our new website and more products. BNY focuses on quality, that’s our promise’ – he added.
A B’s bond with Bluenose Labs is truly remarkable – his deep insights and infectious passion for the businesses were palpable throughout our discussion. And as if his entrepreneurial accolades weren’t enough, Alan’s academic achievements were also exceptional, with grades that soared above the best. Originally hailing from Kerala, India, the now-permanent Canadian resident has already accomplished more by 26 than most do in a lifetime. His drive, vision, and community-minded spirit are a true inspiration.
Beyond his business pursuits, he also takes an active role in providing housing assistance for newcomers, making a meaningful positive impact on those around him. Even more impressive, Alan seamlessly juggles his many responsibilities. During our interview, he joined the session right after wrapping up a separate employment interview, demonstrating his unwavering work ethic and ability to deftly multitask.
His commitment and passion for the industry were recognized when his team and their work were featured by Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) and the Rotary Club of North Sydney. Alan’s achievements not only bring pride to Cape Breton Island but also serve as a source of inspiration for individuals pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors.
A B’s story is one of determination, resilience, and unwavering dedication. His journey from India to Canada, his academic excellence, and his contributions to the Cannabis industry are a testament to his unwavering spirit and his ability to excel in challenging environments. As a thriving entrepreneur, a master of the Cannabis market, and a proud CBU alumni, Alan A B stands as a shining example of the potential and talent that our Island nurtures. His story serves as not only an inspiration but a reminder that with hard work, perseverance, and a genuine commitment to one’s community, remarkable achievements are within reach.
