Monogram Communications has been named Small Agency of the Year – Gold by the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) after only its fifth year–awarded at the national conference held May 27 in Banff, Alberta.
“It was a risk to start a national agency in a more remote location, but after seeing professionals from large cities like Calgary and Vancouver in our region meeting local and industrial communications needs, I took on the challenge to build a collective of professionals who had the education and expertise, and –most importantly–the relationships and relevance to support clients in communities we were from ourselves,” said Alyson Gourley-Cramer, CEO and Founder of Monogram Communications.
“It started well as a sole proprietorship, but it wasn’t until I was paired with PR agency Co-Founder + Partner, Katie Dunsworth-Reiach from Talk Shop Media in the Forum’s Mentor Program sponsored by Scotia Bank Women’s Initiative that I had the courage to hire my first employee,” shared Alyson. “From there, I leaned on Katie’s advice and wisdom to move me more confidently into year two, where we doubled our revenue and our team numbers.” This led Gourley-Cramer to pursue mentorship herself,
jumping at the opportunity to be a Fire Side Chat panellist for We-BC.
Founded in 2019 in Prince George, BC, Monogram began as a solo venture and has since expanded to serve clients across Canada, like BC Housing, the Canadian Red Cross, and Telus, by a team of employees and collaborators spanning Vancouver Island to P.E.I. What hasn’t changed is its deeply personal approach—something that continues to set the agency apart.
Recognized for building strong relationships with clients, leading with integrity and growing a values-driven business, Monogram Communications shows what’s possible when you put people first and pair it with strategic creativity. All but one team member identify as women, and Monogram’s flexible work arrangements allow women to truly balance their active lives with their dedication to doing well at work.
“Our name, Monogram, represents the personalized approach we take to each project, but it’s also the personalized approach we enable our team to take to work. Women are busy, active participants in their families and their communities. Our work-from-anywhere policy We’ll continue to stay true to that principle as we look to the years ahead,” says Gourley-Cramer.
With a 74% return-client rate and year-over-year revenue doubling since its inception, Monogram’s growth tells a story of trust, results and relationships built to last–regardless of sector, size or location.
“To be recognized by the best in our profession is an honour I didn’t expect this early for Monogram Communications,” said Alyson. “But it’s programs like The Forum’s Mentor Program that women like me can lean into for support, be vulnerable in asking big questions and gain insights that can lead to major wins! I’m so grateful for the support of Katie and The Forum .”
“From their early days, Monogram and Founder Alyson Gourley- Cramer have been dedicated to reimagining communications, and what a high-functioning agency dedicated to their clients looks like. I’ve been lucky enough to have a front row seat to their growth as a mentor, friend and colleague, thanks to the connection made through The Forum.”—Katie Dunsworth-Reiach, Co-Founder, Principal, Talk Shop
