Younes Sadat-Nejad is a pioneer in both academia and the professional sector via his work as a professor in Humber College’s Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology. His dedication to finding novel approaches to pressing social issues has made him an invaluable asset to the Humber campus.
Background and Expertise:
Younes Sadat-Nejad began teaching at Humber College in 2019 as part of the Electronics Engineering department. He instructs a course called “Elements of a Product Design,” in which students in their first year of engineering learn to use technologies like programming and 3D models to create a functional electronic prototype.
Younes attended Ryerson University, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering. After deciding to focus on creating smart home monitoring solutions for seniors with hearing loss and dementia during his master’s program, he co-founded Veebar Tech.
Current Research Project:
Younes Sadat-Nejad is currently the Principal Investigator for a research project on Robotic Painting Arm Development, which received a grant of $25K from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). He is collaborating with Dr. Mehrdad Iravani-Tabrizipour, a professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology at Humber, and industry partner Mechatronic Diagnostics, a for-profit automotive diagnostic and repair center.
By implementing the suggested solution, the industry partner will be able to automate car painting procedures in their repair shop booth, hence improving efficiency and worker safety. Since the solution produced by the research team will help industry partners increase operational efficiency, and because students engaged in the project will acquire valuable hands-on experience working on a real-world problem, the initiative benefits both industry and academia.
Why Research Matters?
According to Younes Sadat-Nejad, researching is the key to opening up new fields of study. He is currently in his third year as a Ph.D. student at the University of Toronto, where he studies how to classify brain data using Graph Neural Networks (GNN).
In Younes’s view, research is inherently future-focused and can potentially expand scientific horizons. He sees research as a means to an end, one that allows him to do more than simply find solutions to issues in the real world; it also improves his research and technical abilities, teaches him to think critically, and teaches him to approach challenges systematically.
