Zeb Evans: The Phenonix Entreprenuer

Zeb Evans had three near-death experiences. The first was at 10 when a jet ski accident led to an oblique injury followed by a ruptured appendix. The second was during his undergraduate period when a home-invaded robbery left him harmless. The third was a sudden seizure while in a theatre with his friends, which the doctors later diagnosed as convulsive syncope caused by stress which can lead to sudden cardiac death.

The survival of multiple death experiences significantly influenced his perceptions and his wanting to be an entrepreneur at a young age, shaping his entrepreneurial journey and helping him refocus on the little time and create meaningful, impactful products.

Today, Evans is the founder and CEO at ClickUp. He is a serial entrepreneur on a mission to make the world more productive. He has started several software companies and generated over $100 million in revenue.

Zeb Evans is extremely passionate about entrepreneurship, and it runs in his veins.

The Productivity Solution

Evans felt that people were less productive even while using a variety of products that were available on the market and designed to increase productivity. This problem had bothered him since his first business, so he studied heavy-hitter productivity platforms like Asana and Trello to resolve the issue.

He was looking for ways to unify the solutions that Asana and Trello offer that can be utilized for his business’s internal work and aimed at saving time. But realizing the huge necessity of productivity tools, they expanded their process to develop a custom, affordable, easy-to-use tool for businesses.

In 2017, Evans and his team began developing ClickUp, an all-in-one productivity tool, from their two-story home, which they used as their workspace and home. Within six months, they successfully developed the first version of ClickUp with an investment of $2.5 million that they raised from selling Evan’s previous business.

The team employed an organic SEO strategy and focused on search terms related to Trello, Asana, and other productivity software to compete with the established players in the productivity business.

Following the market trends and the common pattern of people’s needs and demands, Evans developed ClickUp as a community-led and community-driven tool.
