BlueBird iT, the IT Team Behind Your Doctor’s Computer

Most Canadians never think about the technology behind a visit to their doctor, pharmacist or dentist. BlueBird iT Solutions thinks about it every day. The Toronto company was founded to help Canada become a leader in healthcare technology, and it measures success by what better technology means for patients, their families and their communities.

IT That Stays Out of the Way

A good day at a clinic is one where nobody mentions the computers. That is the standard BlueBird iT holds itself to with every healthcare provider it supports, from solo practitioners to large group practices across Canada.

Its team manages networks, equipment and security so care teams can stay focused on seeing patients rather than dealing with technology issues.

“The less a doctor has to think about technology, the more attention the patient gets,” says Paul Reckas, COO of BlueBird iT. “We want every practice in Canada to work that way.”

Why a Slow System Matters More in a Clinic

A clinic cannot deliver care effectively without reliable technology. Charts, prescriptions and scheduling all depend on electronic systems, which means a slow computer or network can delay appointments throughout the day, while an outage can interrupt care entirely.

Patient records may be protected in the cloud by software providers, but the computers, networks and email systems used to access them still need to be secured.

Much of BlueBird iT’s work happens before a client needs to call. Its team monitors systems around the clock, resolves issues before they disrupt a practice, helps defend against cyberattacks and provides monthly security awareness training for staff.

When support is needed, clients can reach technicians who understand healthcare systems and can respond quickly to technical issues.

Twenty Years In

John Solomos, CEO and President of BlueBird iT, founded the company in 2005 as Canadian physicians were moving from paper charts to electronic records.

At the time, many practices had limited internal IT expertise, creating a need for specialized infrastructure and support during the transition.

Working with OntarioMD, BlueBird iT helped support the adoption of electronic medical records among Ontario physicians, contributing to a shift from adoption rates of under 10% to more than 90%.

The Name Clinics Pass Along

Canadian healthcare is a close-knit sector where clinic managers and physicians regularly share recommendations about the suppliers they trust.

Over the past two decades, BlueBird iT has grown largely through those relationships. Thousands of providers across the country now rely on its services, with many first connecting with the company through referrals from colleagues.

Healthcare technology companies have also worked with BlueBird iT for field and support services, extending the company’s role beyond direct clinic support.
