(OTTAWA) – February 15, 2022 – The President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Perrin Beatty, issued the following statement on today’s announcement by the federal government regarding the relaxation of cross-border travel rules for vaccinated travellers.
“As Canada enters a new phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is definitely time for the federal government to ease travel restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers. Restoring the health of Canada’s travel and tourism sector is critical for our country’s economic recovery.
We welcome the decision by the federal government to no longer only require a negative PCR test before entering Canada, as well as the lifting of the blanket travel advisory. This gradually moves us towards what is happening in other major jurisdictions.
The change in messaging about the safety of travel in Canada is also welcome news. The travel and tourism sector has been a leader in protecting public health and it is time for Canada to once again start welcoming the world.
As conditions continue to improve, we look forward to the government working to lift remaining requirements in a timely manner.”
