In this exclusive CanadianSME Small Business Magazine interview, Hamood Meraj, Founder and CEO of Biznex, shares how his transition from executive leadership to entrepreneurship inspired a mission to make digital transformation practical and accessible for small and mid-sized businesses. Drawing on more than fifteen years across software, energy, and consulting, Hamood explains how Biznex helps SMEs break down information silos, build integrated systems, and tap into global technology partnerships so they can operate more efficiently and compete with confidence in a digital-first economy.

Hamood Meraj is the Founder and CEO of Biznex, a digital transformation and software solutions company that helps small and mid sized businesses build strong digital systems and improve the way they operate. With more than fifteen years of experience in technology and business leadership, Hamood has worked across the software, energy, and consulting sectors.

What inspired you to start Biznex after leaving your previous executive role, and how did that personal transition shape your vision for helping SMEs with digital transformation?

After finishing off an executive role in a software company, I found myself rethinking the direction of my career. While interviewing for roles in sales and business development, I saw the gaps in SME’s and how much value I could generate for employers through lead generation and the gaps in technology, workflow understanding, and technology solutions. It made me realize that I could apply the same skills to build something of my own.

During this transition, I also saw how many small and mid sized businesses struggle with digital systems. Many lacked access to simple and affordable digital support and ecosystem. That gap became my motivation. I wanted to build a company that made digital transformation easy for SMEs, without heavy costs or complex processes.

This experience shaped Biznex into a business focused on practical solutions, clear workflows, and strong partnerships. My journey helped me understand the real challenges smaller companies face, and it became the foundation of our vision to support them with technology that improves the way they work.

What are the most common challenges small and mid-sized Canadian businesses face when starting their digital transformation journey, and how does Biznex address these?

Many Canadian SMEs face similar challenges when they begin their digital transformation journey. The most common issues include limited budgets, lack of in house technical skills, and not knowing which tools or systems will bring real value. Many also deal with disconnected systems that make daily operations slow and difficult to track.

Biznex focuses on solving these problems by offering simple, clear, and affordable digital solutions. We start by understanding the business workflow and then recommend tools that match their needs rather than pushing large or complex systems. Our partnerships allow us to offer strong development support, CRM and ERP options, and web solutions without high costs.

We guide clients through each step, from planning to launch, so they feel supported instead of overwhelmed. This approach helps SMEs adopt technology with confidence and see real gains in productivity and efficiency.

How do global partnerships enhance Biznex’s ability to deliver cutting-edge technology services in local markets, and what benefits do your clients experience as a result?

Our global partnerships play a major role in expanding the range and quality of services we offer. Working with partners like Coach House Offshore gives us strong support in web development and digital enhancements. Their team helps us deliver projects faster and with higher technical standards.

Our partnership with Titanium Group brings deep expertise in Oracle based CRM and ERP systems, Salesforce and Odoo, allowing us to provide advanced enterprise solutions to clients in North America. This gives SMEs access to tools that are usually available only to larger companies.

We also work with Digitech Excellence in the US to serve the energy sector with digital tools that improve workflow, maintenance tracking, asset management solutions and operations.

As a result, clients get a blend of local understanding and global technical strength. They receive higher quality solutions, faster delivery, and access to specialized skills that improve their digital growth.

Can you share how your background in software development and energy sector technology has influenced Biznex’s approach to building integrated solutions that effectively connect information silos?

My career in software development and years spent working with technology in the energy sector taught me the importance of having clear workflows and connected systems. In the energy industry, operations depend on accurate information flow between teams like warehouse, maintenance, safety, and field operations. Any gap or delay can impact performance.

This experience shaped Biznex’s approach. We focus on creating solutions that remove information silos and allow data to move smoothly across departments. Whether we design a website, build a CRM, or implement an ERP system, our goal is always to make sure every part of the business can see the right information at the right time.

This background also helps us understand real operational needs, not just the technical side. It guides us in building systems that support daily tasks, reduce manual effort, and improve decision making for small and mid sized businesses.
