In this exclusive CanadianSME Small Business Magazine interview, Gina Livy, founder and CEO of The Livy Method, shares how three decades in weight loss, fitness, and behavior change led her to build a lifestyle‑first, diet‑free program now trusted by more than 360,000 members worldwide. She explains how helping over 150,000 people lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way has reinforced her mission to restore women’s confidence and hope by teaching them to understand why they eat, how they live, and how real transformation fits into everyday life—not the other way around.
Gina Livy is the founder and CEO of The Livy Method and a leading voice redefining what sustainable weight loss looks like for women. A two-time recipient of WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, she is known for her straight-talking, lifestyle-first approach that challenges diet culture and helps people lose weight by understanding why they eat and how they live.
You turned a small Facebook group of 482 people into The Livy Method, now with hundreds of thousands of sign-ups and members in more than 55 countries. What originally inspired you to create this program, and when did you realize it could become a scalable, homegrown Canadian success story?
In the beginning, I wasn’t trying to build a big company. I just wanted to help people finally feel good in their bodies without dieting. After spending decades in the diet industry, I knew how exhausting and discouraging traditional diets were. When I started that first Facebook group with 482 people, my goal was simply to share a different approach that focused on body awareness, science, and real support instead of deprivation.
It didn’t take long to see how much people connected with it. They were losing weight, yes, but they were also feeling better, gaining confidence, and changing the way they talked to themselves. The excitement in that little group was contagious.
I realized this could grow into something much bigger when members started inviting their friends, families, and coworkers. They kept telling me everyone needed this. That was the moment I understood we had created more than a program. We had started a movement, and I felt both grateful and motivated to turn it into a scalable, homegrown Canadian success story.
The Livy Method is positioned as a health-first, lifestyle-based alternative to traditional dieting, with a 91-day structure, daily support, and zero focus on counting calories or points. How is your approach to weight loss different from typical programs, and why does this format work so well for your members?
What makes The Livy Method different is that we focus on what the body actually needs to function and lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way. Most diets ask people to eat less and work harder, which only stresses the body and leads to short-term results. Our approach is the opposite. We help people reconnect with their bodies, lower stress, support their metabolism, and give themselves what they need instead of taking things away.

The 91 day structure works because real change takes time. It gives members space to learn about their bodies, build healthier habits, and work through the mental part of weight loss that most programs ignore. And the daily support is huge. People do not feel alone or confused. They have a whole team and community guiding them every day.
We do not count calories or points because the body is not a math equation. When you create the right environment for it to thrive, it naturally lets go of the weight it no longer needs. That is why members see such amazing results and why they keep coming back. It works, and it feels good while you are doing it.
Community, coaching, and expert guidance are central to your model, from doctors and psychologists to sleep specialists and learning strategists, plus millions of podcast downloads. Why is community support so important to sustainable change, and what do you think has contributed most to the loyalty and growth of your member base?
Community support is everything when it comes to real, lasting change. Weight loss can feel lonely, especially when people have spent years struggling on their own. When members join The Livy Method, they step into a space where they are supported, understood, and encouraged every single day. That sense of connection is what keeps people going, especially on the tough days.
Having access to experts also gives members confidence. They know the information they are getting is solid and that they are never left guessing. Whether it is a doctor explaining what is happening in the body, a psychologist talking about mindset, or a sleep expert sharing simple shifts, it all helps people feel empowered instead of overwhelmed.
What has contributed most to our loyalty and growth is trust. Members trust the process, they trust the team, and they trust each other. And they share their experiences because they genuinely want others to feel as good as they do. That kind of word of mouth is powerful. It has created a community that feels like a movement, and I think that is why people come back round after round and invite the people they care about to join them.
You’ve built The Livy Method while raising four children, rebuilding after major setbacks, and being twice named one of WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada. How have those personal and entrepreneurial experiences shaped the way you lead, and what unique challenges and opportunities have you faced as a female founder in wellness tech?
My personal journey has shaped everything about the way I lead. Raising four kids while building this company taught me how to stay grounded, flexible, and resilient. Life does not pause because you are building a business, so I learned to show up even when things felt messy or uncertain. Rebuilding after major setbacks also gave me a deep understanding of what it means to start again, and that perspective helps me lead with empathy and honesty.
Being recognized by WXN was a huge honour, but it also reminded me how important it is for women to see themselves in leadership roles. As a female founder in wellness tech, one of the biggest challenges has been breaking through an industry that often focuses on quick fixes. I had to trust my vision and stand behind a method that went against traditional diet culture.
The opportunity, though, has been incredible. Women are redefining what wellness looks like, and being able to build a company that reflects real needs and real lives feels meaningful. I lead with transparency, heart, and a commitment to creating space for others to do the same.
The wellness landscape is shifting quickly, with rising interest in GLP-1 medications, digital programs, and more personalized health tools. As you launch a new app and expand upcoming programs, how do you see The Livy Method fitting into the future of sustainable weight loss, and what would you say to someone considering joining your next 91-day group?
The wellness space is changing fast, and I see that as a good thing. People are becoming more informed, more curious, and more open to personalized support. GLP 1 medications and digital tools can play a role, but long term success still comes down to understanding your body, addressing the reasons weight is there in the first place, and building habits you can actually live with. That is where The Livy Method fits in. We focus on real health, real behaviour change, and real support, and the new app will make that experience even more accessible and personal.
As we grow, the goal is to meet people where they are, whether they use medication, prefer a natural approach, or need a blend of both. The Livy Method works alongside your life, not against it.
If you are thinking about joining the next 91 day group, I would say this: come with an open mind and a willingness to show up for yourself. You do not need to be perfect. You just need to start. The program will guide you, the community will support you, and you will be amazed at how good you can feel when you finally work with your body instead of fighting it.
