As we approach International Women’s Day 2026, CanadianSME’s theme, Give to Gain, offers a powerful reminder of the role generosity and collaboration play in advancing women in business. It is also an opportunity to pause and reflect on what “giving” truly means.
In a time when headlines often highlight exploitation, division, and self-interest, women entrepreneurs have an opportunity to lead differently. Giving should not be understood as a strategy to extract something in return. Rather, it is an act of intention; a commitment to building businesses that uplift others, solve meaningful problems, and contribute something valuable to the world.
Many of the most successful women-led ventures share this common thread: they exist not only to generate profit, but to improve lives. Whether by filling an unmet need, creating opportunity for others, or reshaping how industries treat people, these businesses are grounded in purpose.
When women build with this mindset, the gain is not only economic. It is collective. Communities become stronger, opportunities expand, and the path becomes clearer for the women who follow.
On this International Women’s Day, I applaud CanadianSME for continuing to spotlight women entrepreneurs and for reminding us that when we give with purpose, we create impact that reaches far beyond our own success.
