Melissa Carrington is a dedicated mother, accomplished investor, realtor, and founder of Collective Executive Offices, a women-focused co-working space. Transitioning from graphic design to real estate, Melissa quickly made her mark, earning Rookie of the Year and now a 40 Under Forty honoree.
She specializes in helping up-and-down sizers maximize their equity and make smart financial decisions. Melissa co-founded the Steel City Women’s Collective, raising over $14,000 for community causes in its first year. Known for her community spirit and commitment to empowering women, Melissa inspires others to achieve their dreams and make a lasting impact.
Carrington Real Estate is built on a philosophy of community-first business. Can you share how your experiences, like the one at the women’s gym, have shaped your approach to fostering genuine connections within your ventures?
It’s incredible how much growth can come from sharing the good, the bad, and everything in between. When I started going to a local women’s gym, I didn’t realize how much those everyday connections and that sense of community would influence my approach to business.
At the gym, I showed up as myself—sharing my wins, fears, and struggles—and the women around me did the same. We encouraged and supported one another, and in that space of vulnerability, trust naturally grew.
That trust became a foundation for how I approach my work in real estate. I don’t pretend to know it all, but I’m committed to learning, guiding, and protecting my clients every step of the way. The women at the gym saw that firsthand, and it’s the same principle I bring to every connection I make—genuine care, honesty, and mutual support.
Your vision for Carrington Real Estate includes client-only networking events and local meet-ups. How do these initiatives reflect your goal of building not just a business but a thriving community?
My goal with client-only events is to create opportunities for meaningful connections that go beyond real estate.
These gatherings are designed to bring people together—whether they share similar interests or come from completely different industries—to foster collaboration and growth. If introducing one client to another leads to a new business or career opportunity, that’s a huge win. Local meet-ups take this a step further by expanding our network across the city, helping us build not just a business, but a thriving, supportive community.
As an entrepreneur who also leads Collective Executive Offices, how do you balance innovation and community-building across both ventures? What lessons have you learned from managing these diverse projects?
Both ventures share the same vision and core values, which allows them to complement each other rather than compete for my time or energy.
Innovation and community-building are at the heart of everything I do, so whether I’m leading Carrington Real Estate or Collective Executive Offices, the goals align seamlessly. What I’ve learned is that when your projects support a larger vision, they naturally reinforce one another. This approach not only streamlines my efforts but also strengthens the impact I can make across both communities.
You’ve mentioned that business growth stems from personal growth. How do you encourage personal development within your team and among your clients, and how has that philosophy contributed to your success?
Always be learning—that’s the foundation of personal and professional growth. But learning isn’t limited to your industry or traditional ‘book smarts.’ I encourage my team and clients to explore whatever fuels their energy and creativity. Whether it’s a cooking class, pottery, joining a book club, or diving into wine and culture, developing new skills keeps the mind sharp and the spirit inspired.
Equally important is maintaining a positive mindset. I remind everyone that there’s no such thing as failure as long as you keep moving toward your goals. This philosophy has not only contributed to my success but also fostered resilience and growth in the people around me.
With Carrington Real Estate launching in 2025, what excites you most about the future? How can individuals connect with you to become part of the community you’re building in Hamilton?
What excites me most about the future is witnessing the power of a united and supportive community. I can’t wait to see the connections, friendships, and partnerships that will grow from this venture.
