Noura Sakkijha: Destined To Redefine the Fine Jewelry Industry

Noura Sakkijha is a third-generation fine jeweler in her family. Her entrepreneurial background exposed her to the ins and outs of the business from a young age.

Building a Brand With a Vision

From a very young age, Sakkijha was in love with jewelry, from the intricate jewelry-making techniques and precious materials to an appreciation for each piece being as unique as the wearer.

The things she did not love about the industry were the conventional view that fine jewelry should only be given as gifts on special occasions and that the jewelry industry was created for men to give gifts to women rather than for women to celebrate themselves.

This traditional positioning of jewelry and the lack of self-belongingness made Noura focus on a profession in engineering. But being a member of an entrepreneurial family, she couldn’t stop herself from trying her hand in and starting her own business.

She juggled her profession and passion by working at a consulting firm during the day and building her brand by night. She envisioned building a brand that speaks to women buying fine jewelry for themselves and that welcomes gifting without prioritizing it over others.

Modernizing The Jewelry Industry

Noura Sakkijha founded Mejuri to reimagine the fine jewelry industry and modernize a decades-old industry for women everywhere. Her jewelry reflects and epitomizes her belief that when women are empowered to make their own choices, they empower those around them.

She believes that the truest expression of Mejuri is mutual uplift, all of us supporting each other and the community, to feel empowered to invest in ourselves and, in turn, the community around us.

Their mission is to redefine luxury your way and considers jewelry as an expression of self. They believe that how you show up in the world should have no limits, and they work with master jewelers to create pieces that feel like you, to mean what you want, wear them how you want, and keep them forever. Their jewelry is made to last and designed in-house, with craftsmanship and responsible sourcing at its cornerstone.

Over the years, Mejuri has grown into a brand that sends a message to empower ourselves and each other and continue building meaningful jewelry. In addition, they find ways to give back to the community and live out their message as the company moves into the next phase.

Embodying The Mejuri Mission

Noura Sakkijha established the Mejuri Empowerment Fund as the first of many steps to deliver impact beyond their beautiful jewelry, and they plan to continue expanding the fund this year. The goal of the fund is to make an impact by providing the next generation with the tools to rise to leadership on their terms.

The funding program was launched in 2020 by partnering with various corporate giving partners and giving $120,000 to support scholarships for BIPOC women and non-binary people and broader financial and educational resources to empower themselves and their future in Canada and the US. They continue their initiative by prioritizing empowering under-represented women and non-binary people.

Commitment To Quality

Mejuri works with the world’s best jewelers to create fine jewelry at a fair price. Each piece in their assortment starts with their in-house design team. Then, inspired by sleek, modern sculptural designs and patterns, they celebrate the pop of a gemstone and the subtle sparkle of a diamond.

Their expert jewelers, spread across the world, use the highest quality materials, from recycled gold and 18k gold vermeil to responsibly sourced diamonds and AAA-grade gemstones.

Mejuri ensures quality through their commitment to sustainability. As an ethical brand, they know how their materials are sourced and processed and the working conditions they are made. Their entire production ecosystem, including sourcing, manufacturing, and branding, aims to mitigate their environmental impact, support and empower their partners, and give back to the communities.

Traceability and transparency are key to avoiding unintended negative impacts at any stage of the creation process. Therefore, Mejuri is committed to the highest level of sustainability and continuously establishes frameworks and processes to improve the traceability of their materials across their supply chain.

Mejuri recognizes that this level of accountability is the future of modern luxury and is committed to driving this change. With that in mind, they are making significant investments to evaluate and develop material traceability frameworks and promise to continue to work with manufacturers with the appropriate traceability processes and certifications.
