When local businesses thrive, entire communities benefit.
When local businesses thrive, entire communities benefit. Jobs are created, public revenues increase, and Canadians gain greater access to the services they rely on every day. But a growing wave of crime is putting all of that at risk.
In response, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce launched today the Safer Businesses Council — a national, business-led coalition committed to addressing rising safety concerns and protecting the future of municipal economies across Canada.
“You can’t have strong communities without safe businesses. When employers, employees and customers feel unsafe, local economies start to unravel. This Council will put business voices at the heart of the conversation on public safety and drive real, practical policy solutions.”
David Pierce, Vice President of Government Relations, Canadian Chamber of Commerce
Bringing together a diverse group of businesses from across sectors — including major retailers, restaurants, banks and more — the Safer Businesses Council offers a unified forward-looking, action-oriented forum to develop and advocate for smart, effective policy solutions to keep Canadian communities safe and businesses thriving. The Council’s mandate includes:
- Pushing for stronger measures to deal with violent and repeat offenders.
- Advocating for better front-line support for vulnerable populations.
- Identifying policy gaps that are unintentionally contributing to the problem.
- Engaging with federal policymakers to shape smarter, community-driven solutions.
The Council’s work comes at a pivotal time — without immediate action, unsafe business environments will continue to drive investment, jobs and opportunity away from communities, leaving them behind.
Participating organizations will help shape national advocacy efforts, engage directly with policymakers, and lead a united voice for safer, stronger communities across Canada.
