Shaping Tomorrow’s Workforce: A1 Global’s Journey

In this exclusive interview with CanadianSME Small Business Magazine, Vishal Manocha, the Owner and President of A1 Global College of Health, Business, & Technology, discusses the rapid growth of the college, its mission to provide accessible, career-focused education, and the opening of its new Waterloo campus. With a commitment to employer partnerships and community-driven initiatives, A1 Global College is shaping the future of education in Ontario, preparing students for real-world success in health, business, and technology.

I Vishal Manocha, an accomplished professional with a Masters of Science in Management and Marketing from the University of Central England, Birmingham, UK. With 20 years of experience in student recruitment, I serve as the Owner and President of A1 Global College of Health, Business, & Technology in Mississauga, Ontario. I am deeply committed to our mission of fostering academic excellence, nurturing creativity, and preparing our students to excel in a rapidly evolving world. We strive to provide a world-class education that not only equips our students with the knowledge and skills they need but also encourages them to think critically, act ethically, and engage with their communities.

A1 Global College’s new Waterloo campus marks a significant step in your expansion. What inspired this move, and how does it align with your mission to deliver accessible, career-focused education to a broader student base?

The opening of our Waterloo campus represents the fourth major expansion in just two years, following our locations in Mississauga, Hamilton, and Scarborough. This rapid growth is driven by a singular mission: to provide accessible, career focused education that leads to real opportunities and real success.

Waterloo was chosen because it is one of Canada’s foremost innovation hubs, with strong demand for the practical, fast-track programs we offer. Establishing a presence here means more than just adding a location—it means making quality, market-ready education more accessible to students within the region, aligned closely with local workforce needs.

This expansion delivers on several key priorities:

  • Broader reach: Removing barriers by bringing education closer to diverse communities, allowing students to learn within their own regions.

  • Industry alignment: Tailoring programs to meet the evolving demands of Waterloo’s dynamic economy, ensuring graduates are prepared for real-world opportunities.

  • Accelerated success: Offering fast-track courses that equip students with essential skills efficiently, enabling them to progress with confidence.

The Waterloo campus is a powerful commitment to community, students, and future growth—making career-focused education more accessible and empowering more individuals to transform their lives through learning.

With over three decades of experience in vocational learning, what do you believe differentiates A1 Global College from other career colleges in Ontario’s competitive education landscape?

With over three decades of experience, A1 Global College distinguishes itself by bridging the gap between education and real-world career success through strong employer partnerships. Unlike institutions that emphasize theory alone, we ensure our students gain practical workplace experience during their studies. Our dedicated placement team secures meaningful practicums with trusted industry partners in programs such as the NACC-certified Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Early Childhood Assistant (ECA). These opportunities build confidence, skills, and exposure well before graduation.

Our curriculum is continuously shaped by input from Industry Advisory Councils, ensuring it aligns with current employer needs and market demands. This collaborative approach keeps our training relevant and adaptable.

Equally important are our instructors—experienced professionals who serve not only as educators but as mentors. They provide personalized guidance, including one-on-one counseling, resume support, and mock interviews, fostering students’ growth into confident, job-ready professionals.

Additionally, our job fairs connect students directly with industry partners, facilitating interviews, internships, and long-term employment opportunities.

At A1 Global College, we don’t just teach—we provide accessible, career focused education that leads to real opportunities and real success.

Waterloo is renowned for its innovation and diversity. How do you plan to harness these community strengths to benefit your students and foster future-ready professionals in health, business, and technology?

Waterloo’s strengths as an innovation hub and diverse community are at the heart of our educational approach. We are building strong partnerships with technology incubators and healthcare providers to offer co-op placements, industry projects, and site visits. This hands-on experience gives our students a chance to see the latest practices in action.

Our curriculum is designed with the region’s workforce needs in mind, thanks to valuable conversations with local leaders from Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge during the July 26th campus inauguration. We also place a big emphasis on diversity. Our program electives are tailored to meet the unique needs of the community, and our classroom groups reflect the rich multicultural makeup of Waterloo.

This combined focus helps prepare our graduates to succeed in workplaces that are connected not just locally but around the world. We intend to replicate proven initiatives from our other campuses—such as industry-focused job fairs, employer engagement programs, and an expanded portfolio of courses—to enhance both academic learning and real-world career readiness

The enthusiastic support from local community leaders shows we are all aligned in this vision. A1 Global College Waterloo is positioned to play a pivotal role in advancing talent and opportunity within the region’s top industries.

In the face of rapid technological advancement and changing workforce demands, how does A1 Global College ensure its programs remain relevant and equip students not just with skills, but with a sense of purpose?

We stay connected and relevant by actively engaging with industry leaders. Our sector specific advisory councils meet regularly to review and update our programs based on the latest technology and market needs. For example, we’ve introduced a specialized AI program, while our PSW training stays aligned with up-to-date industry standards.

But it’s not just about technical skills. We believe in helping students find a deeper sense of purpose. Whether they are providing patient care, creating software solutions, or managing business operations, students get to apply what they’ve learned in real workplaces. This helps turn classroom knowledge into meaningful contributions to the community.

At our July 26th inauguration, local leaders from Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge praised the readiness of our graduates to meet community needs. We also offer employer led seminars where professionals share how their work impacts lives, inspiring students to see the real difference their careers can make.

The success of over 200 placed PSW graduates shows this approach really works.Combining strong skills with a sense of mission empowers our students to build meaningful and fulfilling careers.

Can you share A1 Global College’s future plans for further expansion or new initiatives that aim to make quality education even more accessible across Ontario and beyond?

Following the successful launch of our Waterloo campus, we are actively exploring new locations across Ontario, focusing on communities where there is a clear need for skilled workers and strong demand from employers.

Each new campus will build on our proven model: accelerated programs, paid placement opportunity, and deep partnerships with employers, just like we demonstrated at our recent PSW job fair, which brought together over 200 attendees.

But expansion is not just about opening doors in more cities. We are also developing hybrid learning models to better support learners in rural and remote areas, and we are launching micro credentials in fast growing fields like healthcare technology and AI operations.

Another exciting step is our Corporate Academy initiative, co created with industry partners, which will introduce specialized training labs inside our campuses to give students hands on, job focused experience from day one.

The distinguished acknowledgement from influential leaders across Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge at our July 26 inauguration reinforced our confidence in this vision.  Like us, they understand that truly accessible education requires both a strong community presence and alignment with industry needs.

Our long term goal is ambitious but simple: to build a province wide network where any motivated learner can access employer approved training in their own community and step confidently into a rewarding career.

As a leader who has helped countless students launch successful careers, what final advice or words of encouragement would you share with small and medium-sized businesses striving to invest in talent development and growth?

To my fellow pioneers striving to grow despite challenges, talent is the cornerstone of lasting success. Investing in your team transforms obstacles into opportunities and builds a legacy that endures. As someone who understands the demands of running a small or medium-sized business—the long hours, the setbacks—I can attest that the key is surrounding yourself with people who share your vision and believe in the future you are creating, not just the day-to-day tasks.

What motivates me daily is the conviction that investing in education is not simply an expense—it is an investment in the future of our economy and our communities. At A1 Global College, we witness firsthand how well-trained graduates are stepping into essential roles across healthcare, technology, and business sectors. For example, our job fairs have connected over 500 students with employers in fields like Personal Support Work, demonstrating the tangible impact of collaboration between educational institutions and local businesses.

My advice to businesses is to be bold in your commitment to talent development. Mentor students, partner with colleges on tailored training programs, and provide work placements. These are not costs but strategic investments—seeds that cultivate loyal, skilled teams and foster vibrant local economies.
