AI at Work: How LinkedIn’s New Tools Are Shaping Modern Job Searches

Small Business Canada

Catherine Fisher from LinkedIn discussed with CanadianSME Small Business Magazine how AI-powered tools are revolutionizing the job search process for professionals, offering streamlined, efficient ways to match job seekers with ideal roles tailored to their skills and salary expectations. These tools significantly reduce the time spent on cumbersome tasks like resume writing and job searching by providing personalized feedback and tailored job suggestions. However, Catherine emphasizes the importance of human oversight in using AI tools to ensure the final outputs accurately represent the user’s unique voice and professional image. To safeguard its platform against increasing online scams, LinkedIn has introduced robust verification processes and advanced AI detection systems to maintain a secure environment. Recognizing the shifting skill demands in the job market, LinkedIn also offers extensive resources through LinkedIn Learning to help professionals adapt and enhance their AI competencies, preparing them for future opportunities.

How are LinkedIn’s new AI-powered tools transforming the way professionals search for jobs, and what immediate advantages can they expect from using these tools? And what common pitfalls should professionals be aware of, and how does LinkedIn help mitigate these risks?

LinkedIn’s new AI-powered tools are transforming the job search experience, making it faster and more efficient, and helping job seekers be more strategic about focusing on

quality to find the right role. Instead of navigating through countless job listings, our AI-powered tools help professionals discover relevant job opportunities based on their skills, interests and preferences and assess whether they are a good fit in seconds. Job seekers can also refine their search using intuitive everyday language. For instance, a job seeker can simply search for “engineering jobs in Toronto that pay more than $120,000.”

More than half of professionals on LinkedIn say writing resumes and cover letters is one of the most painful parts of the job process. Now job seekers can get tailored resume feedback and help drafting personalized cover letters, not only helping them stand out in a crowded market but also giving them time back to focus on the human part of the job search – the interview.

Embracing AI tools can help job seekers work more efficiently to highlight who they are and what makes them right for a role, but it’s important to remember AI should be used more as a starting point rather than the end result. Job seekers should always review and edit content before posting to ensure it is accurate and captures their voice and tone.

With the increase in sophisticated online scams, what measures has LinkedIn implemented to ensure that its platform remains a safe and trustworthy environment for its users? And how does AI reshape the skill sets that professionals need to succeed, and what initiatives does LinkedIn have in place to help users develop these competencies?

With the rise in fraudulent activity across the internet and scammers becoming more sophisticated, LinkedIn is committed to ensuring our platform remains safe, secure, and easy to use for our members and customers. One key measure we’ve implemented is a free verification service that allows members to authenticate their accounts using a government ID through our partnership with CLEAR. Our verification process also displays whether a job posting is verified. Globally, over 30 million professionals have verified their identity on LinkedIn, reducing the risk of fake profiles.

We use AI and teams of experts to stop the majority of fraudulent activity before it even reaches members. We also display warnings for potentially high-risk content, and have new detection tools to identify AI generated profile photos. If members encounter anything they believe is off or could be a scam, we have an easy reporting system in place that allows our team to promptly review and take action against fraudulent activities.

As AI continues to evolve, it is also reshaping the skill sets professionals need to be successful. Now more than ever, hiring managers are increasingly prioritizing workers with AI skills. In fact, research suggests two-thirds (66 per cent) of Canadian employers prioritize candidates with AI skills. Many businesses believe leveraging AI can help increase productivity and efficiency while unlocking growth/revenue opportunities. Professionals who embrace AI will stand out and stay ahead. We’re seeing an increase in learners engaging in AI content to develop these competencies. LinkedIn Learning provides access to over 600 AI courses and over 340 generative artificial intelligence (GAI) live courses and can empower members with the skills they need to grow and advance in their careers. Some of LinkedIn’s most popular courses include How to Research and Write Using Generative AI Tools, What is Generative AI, Generative AI for Business Leaders and more.
