There are 3 stages to empowerment – In stage 1, business skills training is imparted. This stage provides you with the fundamental business skills you need to help you draft a simple business plan for your venture. Stage 2 is about mentorship. In this stage, through personalized weekly mentoring sessions, free counselling from a licensed therapist, specialized courses, monthly networking events, a part-time co-working space, and affordable microloans, their mentorship program assists residents and their business dreams. Stage 3 is about community partnerships. Entrepreneurs may be given the opportunity to appear on marketing platforms such as documentaries, workshops with private schools, and brief video series after a few months of mentoring. Their objective is to change the stigma and promote talent in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.
Employ to Empower Business Skills Training Program
Basic business fundamentals are taught for ten weeks. People who have a business idea and want to learn more about it should enroll in this class. Before starting a business, it’s necessary to learn and be familiar with the topics covered in this curriculum.
You will have a fundamental business plan and toolbox at the end of the course to support you as you launch your venture. The following topics will be covered:
- Creating your company’s values
- Conducting market research
- Branding and marketing
- Handling finances
- Delivering a pitch presentation
Employ to Empower facilitators’ objective is to give participants a basic toolbox of business skills that they can then adapt to their individual entrepreneurial journeys.
Mentorship Program at Employ to Empower
The program lets you understand the core of business operations. After completing their business skill training program, Downtown Eastside residents are eligible to enroll in their mentoring program. The program offers entrepreneurs personalized weekly mentoring sessions with business experts as well as access to low-interest microloans.
After completing the 10-week Business Skills Training program, you can apply to gain access to the following:
- Individual mentoring for 6–9 months
- Workshops with a specific focus (such on finances or social media)
- Events for business and networking
