When important equipment must travel through rain, dust, collision, harsh terrain, or demanding workplaces, the case that protects it becomes part of the equipment. NANUK, a Canadian brand, built its business on that idea, producing high-performance protection solutions for professionals and adventurers who cannot afford to leave their equipment vulnerable.

NANUK designs and manufactures cases in Quebec and uses them across industries, including photography, filmmaking, drones, industrial applications, emergency response, medical services, military activities, and outdoor leisure. Today, the company is expanding its product portfolio while preserving a uniquely Canadian approach to engineering and manufacturing.

From Canadian Manufacturing to Global Gear Protection

NANUK’s corporate history dates back to 1984, when Plasticase began manufacturing plastic boxes as Resentel Ltd. After ownership changes, the company became Plasticase and began designing, engineering, and manufacturing high-quality injection-moulded cases. As demand grew for more durable waterproof cases for professional users, the business created NANUK as a separate protective-case line. The brand name comes from the polar bear, an animal associated with survival in Canada’s Arctic region. NANUK combines that robustness with its design philosophy: equipment protection built to withstand harsh conditions. Today, NANUK says it makes its hard-sided cases at its Quebec factory, giving the company direct control over production standards and quality.

Protection Engineered for Demanding Conditions

NANUK’s core hard cases are designed for durability, organization, and protection from the elements. Many of the company’s cases carry an IP67 rating, protecting against dust and temporary water immersion. NANUK also uses its own NK-7 resin in its hard cases, engineered to withstand collisions and harsh transit conditions. Its industrial solutions undergo testing associated with rigorous transportation and environmental requirements.

NANUK emphasizes testing for impacts, repetitive shocks, vibration, rain, water immersion, and extreme temperatures, and, when appropriate, MIL-STD-810F immersion testing. The cases also include functional design features like the company’s PowerClaw latching system, pressure-management features, changeable foam, padded separators, and wheeled transport options. NANUK backs up its hard cases with a limited lifetime warranty.

Serving Professionals Across Multiple Industries

One of NANUK’s strengths is the wide range of applications its protective gear covers. NANUK provides dedicated camera cases and Pro Photo Kits for photographers and filmmakers to arrange their cameras, lenses, mics, stabilizers, and production equipment. Customizable interiors let professionals tailor the case to a specific equipment setup, rather than forcing valuable gear into a generic storage layout. The business has also created specialized solutions for the fast-growing drone market. Current products include setups for DJI platforms such as the Mavic 4 Pro Creator Combo, Mini 5 Pro Fly More, and other drone systems, along with fitted interiors to organize the aircraft, controllers, batteries, and accessories.

NANUK’s reach stretches far beyond creators. Its portfolio includes cases for first responders, medical professionals, military and law enforcement personnel, industrial technicians, and nature lovers. The company provides EMS and first-aid kits, as well as specialized industrial protection for sensitive equipment. This variety has helped NANUK position itself not only as a case manufacturer but also as an equipment-protection provider that meets specific professional needs.

Moving Beyond the Traditional Hard Case

NANUK’s current portfolio indicates how the company is broadening its definition of equipment protection. Beyond its typical hard cases, the company now sells backpacks, organizers, picture and video bags, outdoor gear, everyday carry solutions, and coolers. Its current product line includes the N-PVD camera and drone ecosystem, N-CUBIK interior organizers, and more outdoor-oriented items such as NANUK coolers. The N-PVD line is especially noteworthy because it brings NANUK’s protection philosophy to soft-sided carrying options. The product features double-layered foam construction, compression-moulded EVA components, adjustable organizational systems, and recycled polyester materials. This expansion lets NANUK support consumers at more points in their journey, from organizing equipment at home to moving it through airports, job sites, and outdoor conditions.

International Recognition for Canadian Design

NANUK’s product design philosophy has also gained international recognition. The NANUK N-PVD Ecosystem has been awarded a Red Dot Design Award for 2024. The internationally known competition assesses performance in areas such as product design, communication design, and design concepts. Red Dot judges emphasized that the N-PVD collection was tailored to regular travellers who need dependable equipment transport.

The system includes a variety of backpack sizes, internal camera units, and technology pouches that combine impact protection, adjustable organization, and ergonomic carrying features. For a Canadian producer competing in the international equipment protection market, the accolade shows how industrial design, alongside durability and performance, can become a key differentiator.

Innovation Built Around What Customers Carry

Protective equipment is becoming more specialized. A filmmaker may carry various camera bodies and lenses, while a drone operator carries batteries, controllers, and aircraft. Emergency responders require quick access to medical equipment, while industrial professionals may demand specialized storage for precision instruments. NANUK addresses these diverse needs with changeable interiors, precision-cut foam, customized panels, branded printing, and colour options for unique uses.

Its bespoke case program transforms a standard protective shell into a purpose-built transportation solution. The combination of physical protection and organization is central to NANUK’s value proposition: equipment should not only survive transport, but also arrive organized and ready to use.

Canadian Protection Designed to Go Anywhere

NANUK’s growth shows how Canadian manufacturing can compete worldwide by specializing in product design and engineering. From tough hard cases to award-winning camera bags, drone protection, medical solutions, and outdoor gear, the firm continues to grow while staying focused on the core dilemma that inspired its origins: protecting expensive equipment where dependability is critical.

For professionals, inventors, and explorers alike, NANUK has elevated the protective case from a simple container to a meticulously designed component of the equipment ecosystem. NANUK.com offers Canadian-made protection products.
