Props Floral Design: Welcome To The Blooms of Beauty And Moments of Joy

Growing out of their Halifax Farmers’ Market floral company, Susan MacIntosh and her sister Dawn MacFadden founded Props Floral Design on Granville Street in downtown Halifax in 1997. Ashley MacNeill, their niece, began working there in 2003 and quickly rose to prominence within the design team. By executing original and imaginative floral design and really entertaining seminars, including Chic Night at the Halifax Club, lunch and learns, and an appearance on Global Television, they generated a lot of attention. Local and national event and design journals have featured them.

In 2013, the store relocated to the Hydrostone Market. Ashley MacNeill and her new partner, Jayme Melrose, purchased the store in 2019. Jayme is well-known in Halifax for her involvement in several other urban agriculture and permaculture projects in addition to Common Roots Urban Farm. She was introduced to the Props Floral team by way of the Urban Farm’s flower sales. She complements Ashley’s abilities in things floral with her expertise in flower cultivation, plant care, and organizational administration.

Props Floral combines the best plants and flowers available with tasteful, eye-catching design and a socially and environmentally conscious approach. With plenty of in-season, locally grown, and organic flowers, their goal is to always have something fresh and locally sourced in the refrigerator.  Props Floral makes a concerted effort to minimize trash, recycle as much as they can, and compost any perishables.

Mental Health & Wellness Workshops

Floral design workshops are hosted by Props Floral Design from time to time, to promote mental health and wellness. These workshops are therapeutic and serve a purpose of recovery and rejoicing in a good life.

The act of working with flowers has been shown to have numerous mental health benefits. Studies suggest that being surrounded by nature and engaging in creative activities can reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Additionally, the vibrant colors, pleasing scents, and tactile sensations of flowers can uplift the mood and evoke positive emotions.

These workshops at Props Floral Design are aimed to share and expand a holistic approach to self-care. Community vibes serve as the main aim. Whether a person seeks relaxation, inspiration, or a way to connect with others, a floral design workshop provides a nurturing space for personal growth and healing.
